Sky Haven Farm is tucked away on 30 acres in the Hereford zone of northern Baltimore County. The Hoffman family purchased the property in 2010 after years of neglect and worked with a builder to restore and renovate the historic stone house on the property that was constructed over 150 years ago. The Hoffman farm residents include 2 horses and a pony, about 15 goats, 4 dogs and 8 cats. Our new 6-stall barn and outdoor arena were finally finished in 2014, to the rejoicing of all the farm residents.
The Sky Haven goat herd is part of a joint venture into goats that was started by Megan Hoffman (Sky Haven Farm) and Allison Poe (Green Circle Farm) in 2010 after they met at a beekeeping class. Originally our herd name was Green Sky Goats, reflecting our joint venture. Our first foray into goats was the Nigerian Dwarf, offering milk for a family in a small packages with great personalities. They were such wonderful creatures to have around that we started what can only be called "goat collecting". Later we then added Nubians and mini-Nubians to the mix for greater milk volume. Megan's official herd name was changed to Sky Haven in 2013 when Allison began the process of selling her goats. The Nubians and mini-nubians were sold in 2015 when Megan was pregnant with her second baby and sold many well-loved goats in preparation for the expanded chaos of two children. But we plan to add them back into the fold in a few years, when the human kids are a little older!
Our goal here at Sky Haven is to breed quality goats with correct conformation and have good milk production. We also love fun colors and moonspots. We don't think that color and quality are mutually exclusive! We do not currently participate in LA, DHIR or showing. With our human kids, full-time jobs, and horses to ride and show there's just no time! But in the future, as Megan's work schedule allows, we hope to do LA and milk testing.
We love to "talk goat" and are more than happy to help goat newbies get started in the world of goats. All our our kids are sold with a "starter package" of information, grain, hay and anything else we can give you to help make the transition easy for your kid. We want happy owners with happy, healthy goats!
